What's new

What changed for a shop, by what you do. The newest is first in each part.

Getting around

  • 18 Oct: The public site is rebuilt: the home page, Pricing, How it works, The sealed record, the comparisons, Who built it, Talk to us, and the terms and privacy pages.
  • 16 Oct: A new mark: the photographed scarab, on the app's icon, the browser tab and the home page.
  • 12 Oct: A box with a length limit says so under the box before anything is saved, and a long word wraps inside its box instead of running off the page.
  • 11 Oct: When something fails, the screen says so in a plain sentence.
  • 11 Oct: A page that fails to load is tried once more before you are told you are offline, and the offline page tries again by itself.
  • 11 Oct: A screen that moved has a new address, and the old one still takes you there.
  • 10 Oct: On a computer the menu is a sidebar on the left. It folds to a narrow rail, and each computer remembers which. On a phone, Menu opens the same list.
  • 7 Oct: The menu has six groups: Money, Parts and stock, Staff, Reports, Books and Settings. Every screen has one name, the same in the menu, on the page and in the help, and its old name still finds it.
  • 7 Oct: Find a screen matches the start of a word, and the words a shop and its bookkeeper type, such as estimate, tech or mechanic, find their screen first.

Front counter

  • 12 Oct: Picking a customer is type-ahead on every screen that asks for one, and the arrow keys move through the matches.
  • 12 Oct: Customers shows a hundred at a time, newest first, with the count of all of them, and a search looks through every customer.
  • 12 Oct: The VIN box names the VIN plate apart from the license plate. A VIN with I, O or Q in it, or one the lookup cannot read, is said in a plain sentence.
  • 12 Oct: Vehicles needing a VIN lists each one's plate and how many sealed repairs wait on its VIN.
  • 11 Oct: Check-in asks whether the customer agrees to texts when a booking came without an answer, and asks again when the number has changed. A yes ticked when they booked is carried over.
  • 11 Oct: An estimate link opens for 90 days after it was last sent, and sending it again opens it for another 90.
  • 7 Oct: When a customer answers an estimate with anything but a yes, the front desk gets a request at once. Today counts it, and the owner sees it.
  • 7 Oct: Every send of the estimate, the pay link and the receipt is kept, with who sent it, how, when and whether it was opened, and each can be sent again.
  • 7 Oct: A car that left owing money can be hidden from the board for 30 days. The job says until when and who hid it, with Show again, and Who owes you still lists what is owed.

Service bay

  • 11 Oct: A photo can go on any inspection point. The customer sees it on the inspection report and beside the estimate line it explains.
  • 11 Oct: A photo you stop sharing says so, and since when, with a control to share it again.
  • 11 Oct: Part prices on the technician's screen show in the shop's currency with cents, and a line with no price shows a dash.

Bay 04

Parts

  • 11 Oct: A pasted parts cart goes on the job whole or not at all, up to 200 lines, and says what it added.
  • 11 Oct: The PartsTech paste panel speaks the shop's language and shows money in the shop's currency.
  • 11 Oct: A canned job will not save a labor row with no hours or a part row with no name. It says which row and why.

Bay 05

Money

  • 12 Oct: A job has one open card payment at a time. The job's payments show it with a way to cancel it, and say what the card processor confirmed.
  • 12 Oct: Writing off or voiding a brought-across invoice is held to the shop's refund limit.
  • 11 Oct: The discount and refund limits the owner sets for the counter are counted across everything on the job, and a refund goes back the way the customer paid. A new shop starts with a $250 discount limit.
  • 11 Oct: A typed amount can carry a dollar sign and commas. Anything that is not an amount of money is refused, never saved as one.

Bay 06

Texting and the customer

  • 12 Oct: Where's my car? asks for the phone number and the last six characters of the VIN together.
  • 11 Oct: A missed call from a customer who agreed to texts gets one text back, never two.
  • 7 Oct: On Customer texts a conversation can be archived, and a number blocked: its calls and texts are refused until you unblock it.
  • 7 Oct: A caller who is not a customer can be asked to press 1 before the call rings through. It is a switch under Phone and texting.

Bay 07

Reports and goals

  • 11 Oct: On a declined line you can record which line on a later job did the work. Declined work won back counts those first and says how each row is known.
  • 7 Oct: Shop goals shows each goal's figure so far this week or this month.

Bay 08

Signing in

  • 12 Oct: Changing somebody's PIN or sign-in address asks the person making the change to prove it is them first.
  • 12 Oct: A PIN reset code changes the PIN once, and allows five guesses.
  • 12 Oct: Wrong two-step codes for a shop are capped for the day.
  • 11 Oct: Moving to another of your locations asks for that location's sign-in code.
  • 11 Oct: An accountant's link is used by pressing its button, not just by opening it.
